What is Project Management Certification?

The Project Management Institute has currently certified more than 72,000 persons worldwide as Certified Project Management Professionals (PMP®), and the number is growing at an ever increasing rate each year.  For more information about PMI's PMP Certification program, visit their web site at PMI's Home Page. Many large organizations such as AT&T, IBM, NCR and many others to name a few, are now recommending that their Project Managers acquire the PMP certification as part of their career path.  In addition, many large contractors are requiring the PMP certification for Project Managers in the employment of their subcontractors.

The reason that companies and individuals are supporting Project Management Certification is that there is a need for all Project Management Professionals to work consistently, use common terminology and apply the methods of Project Management in a common way.  Certification insures that the Project Manager who is certified is knowledgeable about the Project Management Body of Knowledge and can apply it successfully.

What can PSM Consulting Services do to assist you with PMP Certification?

We currently offer a 5-day seminar for "A Preparation for the PMP Certification Examination".  This course thoroughly covers the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge as developed by the Project Management Institute's Standards Committee and should help prepare attendees for the PMP Certification Examination.

Persons who do not consider themselves Project Managers, but often work on projects, should avail themselves of this course since it will benefit them greatly to understand the interrelationships and processes required for good Project Management.  Even if you do not wish to take the PMP Certification Examination at this time, but want to learn all about Project Management, this course covers all the aspects of Project Management in depth.

Because the PMP Certification Examination is so comprehensive and because effective Project Management requires both teamwork and control, people issues and systems issues are stressed and the use of modern computer systems is emphasized.  Through the use of case studies, workshops and lecture, in the range of issues, tools, and techniques available to today's project manager, students learn more about project management and at the same time prepare for the PMP Certification Examination.

Considerable time will be spent actually experiencing project management through workshops based on an actual project.  Continuity of the case study proceeds through the lecture and workshops.

People attending this workshop will be guided through the completion of the application for certification and of all necessary paper work needed in preparation for the exam.

The time between the preparation course and the actual examination should be used for review of topics that are deficient.  Sample examination questions will be used to help the individual determine any deficiencies.

Who should attend?

Managers and any person working in the field of Project Management, those who intend to become a  certified "Project Management Professional" and managers who are or will be involved in the areas of engineering, data processing, research, and development, construction, manufacturing, corporate planning, finance, and marketing, or any projects where cost, schedule, and performance must meet rigid requirements.  This course is of particular importance to executive managers.
